Evangelization & Catholic Formation of Adults

The Maryvale Institute - Kansas Center

The Archdiocese is proud to offer courses through our partnership with the Maryvale Institute, Birmingham UK.  These courses are specially designed for adults with families, jobs, and other obligations that make time a factor.  Any adult is encouraged to join one of these courses to learn more about our Catholic faith and how to hand it on.  We will again be offering the Certificate in Catechesis and the Master of Arts in Pastoral and Educational Studies (Religious Education and Catechesis).  We are excited this year to add the Certificate in Evangelization and Ministry for the Sick.  Read below for more a brief description, then click the links for more details!

Maryvale Certificate in Catechesis
The two-year, part-time, distance learning course is for anyone interested in developing his or her own faith for the sake of explaining it to others. The course provides a solid foundation in the key areas of Catholic faith which a person needs to understand in order to be able to pass it on. This might be as a catechist in a parish group, but the course is also for those who simply want to be able to give an account of their faith to others.  Those who successfully complete the course are eligible for The Certificate in Catechesis, which is validated by Maryvale Institute and approved by the Congregation for the Clergy, Rome.

Certificate in Evangelization and Ministry for the Sick
This one-year, part-time, distance learning course assists those in parishes who have a special commitment towards working with the sick, whether as extraordinary Eucharistic ministers, catechists or in their pastoral care; it also supports chaplains and visitors in hospitals and those involved in ministry to the sick at a supra-parish level, providing the skills needed to support them in their vocation.  The modules cover the basic principles of ministry to the sick, rooted in a strong ecclesial identity, together with issues concerned with spiritual and human development. The course also includes sensitive and considered principles concerned with the sharing of faith with others. As part of the course participants undertake a placement related to the development of key skills in ministry to the sick.
