At Vespers on the Eve of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29), our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the coming year to the Apostle Paul in celebration of the 2,000th anniversary of his birth. To learn from St. Paul, the Holy Father plans for special publications and study of his writings, pilgrimmages, and a series of liturgical, cultural, and ecumenical events.

The Pope pointed out that the Year of St. Paul must have an important ecumenical dimension. St. Paul's special mission was to bring the gospel to the Gentiles, spreading the good news among all people he encountered, and giving himself up for unity and harmony among Christians.

During this year, the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas will work to promote the spirituality of St. Paul through a number of events focused on evangelization, calling for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Kansas.

O glorious St. Paul, after persecuting the Church you became by God's grace its most zealous Apostle. To carry the knowledge of Jesus, our Divine Savior, to the uttermost parts of the earth you joyfully endured prison, scourgings, stonings, and shipwreck, as well as all manner of persecutions culminating in the shedding of the last drop of your blood for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Obtain for us the grace to labor strenuously to bring the faith to others and to accept any trials and tribulations that may come our way. Help us to be inspired by your Epistles and to partake of your indomitable love for Jesus, so that after we have finished our course we may join you in praising Him in heaven for all eternity. Amen.

Share your faith with friends and relatives in an authentic way. For tips on how to do this, check out this document: How to Evangelize
